2020 statistics have been released showing that the COVID-2019 pandemic tends to favor the iOS-oriented game store more than its Android-friendly counterpart.

Apple’s revenue from App Store has risen by nearly one third as compared to 2019, amounting to approximately 68.4% of the two giant’s total revenue calculated collectively on the global scale. This becomes especially impressive when you recall the fact that Android held 71.88% of the market in November 2020. App Store saw users spend around $278.6 million — an increase of more than thirty percent from the previous year, while Google Play’s revenue was able to reach only some $129. It is still indicative of a growth as compared to 2019, though, measuring approximately 33%.

SensorTower reports 2020 became the first year to see the world’s total spendings on mobile applications and games exceeding a hundred billion USD. This is most likely attributable to the pandemic. Finding themselves in lockdown, people across the globe have been turning to games on Apple’s App Store and Google’s Play Store more than ever before. Entertainment app downloads also appeared to be on the rise.
