While Apple Health app is a a good calorie counter when it comes to burning calories (due to integration with Apple Watch and third-party trackers), it lacks another crucial element: the intake tracker. At least, so it will be until iOS 15 is out. The rumor has it that the updated Health app will be able to track your nutrition.

Food trackers are already quite popular now. Apps like MyFitnessPal, FatSecret, Open Food Facts, and so on help people to control what they eat. With such an app, one can calculate how many calories (as well as fats, carbohydrates and proteins) they need daily and control their nutrition. The app also considers the calories burnt during the day. A powerful food tracker also offers tools like barcode scanner, food database, blog with tips and recipes, monitoring tools, and so on. With it, logging your meals (no matter if you cook it or eat packed foods) becomes a matter of seconds.

How much of these features will Apple Health incorporate? What the default app will certainly do better is interaction with wearables, smart scales, and other peripherals. Anyway, the Health app has been the main hub for all these third-party apps. As for extra features, the app may lack them in the beginning and then receive with updates eventually. Probably the earlier versions will be less functional than rivals, but seamless integration and native support will make it an attractive alternative to established food trackers.

While this feature (just like other leaks) has been neither confirmed nor refuted, it’s not long left to wait. More details about iOS 15 will be revealed at WWDC 2021 which will take place in June. If food tracking is to be implemented, it will probably be among the highlights of the conference, with developers welcomed to participate. Then we will learn more about this potential update, as well as about other features iOS 15 allegedly has.
